When Chaps Go Bad

Postby IronRanger » Thu Jan 28, 2010 9:29 am

This is a video everybody has to watch. Though most of us don't have chains and drive belts, there is still a huge danger of loose clothing (and costumes) getting caught in the moving parts.

Another comment I have as a truck driver, notice everyone's reaction up to the point of the black pick-up driver. When you are on a highway you always see cars hitting their brakes regularily, and swinging between lanes. People tailgate and they are on the gas, on the brakes, on the gas, on the brakes... As a truck driver, when we see someone hit their emergency lights, we are standing on the brakes and down shifting until we get it sorted out what is going on ahead, or if there is debris ahead. That rider wasn't debris, he needed a thinking person to get traffic stopped.

OK, you got my attention today in a big way. Good points to ponder, especially as to acting as a screening agent for the downed rider. What a Godsend that the drivers of the cars reacting (most immediately, that is) to the scene were thinking ahead and not being the people causing the reactive traffic songestion later on. It was definately sobering to view.

First thing to do, is create a 'safe-zone' for the accident
scene, & for those that are 'on-foot' trying to help.
Once Emergency Responders/Police/Fire arrives, I'm
gone...minimize the congestion & the back-up.
If I was an actual witness, I'll move down the road,
& out of the way, until it is my turn to give a report.

Man, that is too close to home. Smart thinking by the pickup driver. It was also interesting to read all the comments to see what caused the accident and how lucky the rider was. Sure we cuss the cagers and they trash those idiots on bikes, but in the end we are all in it together. :scoot:

Boy that goes right through you when you see him go down. I don't know why he moved to the slow lanes right where people are getting on the Interstate. He should have gone straight and merged in further down.
