Air compressor for the Super Scooter

Postby scooterbob » Tue Jun 29, 2010 8:09 pm

Well, with my tire problems at the IRSSR4, I decided to look for a small tire inflator. Something that runs off of 12 volts, and it has to screw on to the valve stem. I have had bad experiences with the ones that push on and you flip the lever to lock it on.

This is what I purchased.

The built in air gauge is not to accurate ... + or - 5 psi at 35 psi. Since I use a stick gauge anyway, this does not bother me.

It took a couple of minutes to bring my rear tire from about 20psi to 35 psi.

Time will tell how long it lasts.

Have a great day,
Bob

After seeing all the other bikes I think I have a list going in my head now. I would love a backrest for the longer rides. And some of those little balls that fit on the brake piece on the handlebars. I think I have figured out most of the GPS on our way home and it may come in handy now. And some time down the road an intercom for bob and I to communicate on the bikes with....that's enough of a list for now. I need a new front tire and an oil change...already have that scheduled.

I like having a plug in compressor, but I haven't had to use it. I keep telling myself I should order the goo for the tires, or at least put slime in them, but I haven't.

And Coralee, it's a whole new world with the communicators, not to mention the safety aspect.

I used the compressor three times before I took the scoot in for new tires.

How did it work so far....
Filling up the tire does take a couple of minutes,
and the compressor head does get quite hot while it's running.

Now I hope I won't need it for quite a while.

PS: People have said that the rear tire stem on the SilverWing should face the other way. I thought about this as I was laying on the garage floor checking my pressure. If the stem was facing the other way, and I was on the side of the road checking my air, I would be a great target for traffic.
